About The Position

The City of New Carrollton Police Department is seeking dedicated, community-focused individuals to join our team as Police Officers. We are currently accepting applications for entry-level candidates enrolled in a certified police academy, recently graduated, as well as experienced/lateral officers who are already certified and have previous law enforcement experience. Requirements

Entry-Level Candidates: Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing
Must be currently enrolled in a Maryland Certified Police Academy or have recently graduated within the last year at the time of application
Must successfully pass a background investigation, physical, and psychological screening
Experienced/Lateral Candidates: Must possess a High School Diploma or GED
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing
Must possess a current certification from the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC)
Requires six months experience as a police officer, conducting law enforcement duties or closely related experience
Must successfully pass a background investigation, physical, and psychological screening

Responsibilities

Enforce local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.
Respond to calls for service, emergencies, and incidents.
Conduct investigations, interviews, and prepare detailed reports.
Engage with community members to promote trust and safety.
Patrol assigned areas by vehicle or on foot to deter and detect criminal activity.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Testifies in motions hearings, court and other proceedings regarding arrests, reports taken, evidence recovered, and victims and others statements.
Secures crime locations and detains witnesses to ensure evidence is not destroyed or contaminated.
