About The Position

Tennessee State University Police Department invites applications for position of Police Officer 1. Job duties: Patrols campus by foot, bicycle, or motor vehicle; Investigates suspected crimes; reports findings and arrests suspected individuals; Investigates accidents and pursues appropriate course of action; Issues citations for traffic and parking violations; Participates in programs sponsored by the police department to include but not limited to crime prevention; Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays; Testifies in court or legal proceedings as required; Maintains records and prepares reports; Operates and maintains police and security equipment; Directs and controls traffic; and Performs other work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Meets the requirements of T.C.A. 38-8-106, Qualifications of Police Officers, including completion and/or attendance and completion within one year following employment of a law enforcement academy curriculum approved by the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission.
  • Be at least twenty one (21) years of age
  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a high school graduate or possess equivalency
  • Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of federal or state law or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances
  • Not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable discharge from any of the armed forces of the United States
  • Have his fingerprints on file with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation
  • Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician
  • Have a good moral character as determined by a thorough investigation conducted by the employing agency
  • Be free of all apparent mental disorders as described in the Diagnostic and Statistical manual of Mental Disorders, Third Edition (DSM-III) of the American Psychiatric Association. Applicants must be certified as meeting these criteria by a qualified professional in the psychiatric or psychological fields.
  • Possess a valid Tennessee operator license as issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety
