These positions are non-exempt under the provisions of the FLSA and may work rotating 12-hour shifts. These positions are subject to overtime, working weekends, holidays, and shift work. Pay rate is dependent upon applicants' qualifications. Special Entrance Rate Police Officer 1 - $18.58/hr. Police Officer 2 - $19.88/hr. As part of a Career Progression Group, the vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a Police Officer 1or Police Officer 2, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license. Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required. An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here. Job Duties: Provide a full range of police services, including foot, bicycle, and vehicular patrols, with emphasis on enforcing laws and regulations, conducting shift-level investigations of crimes and accidents, and responding to emergency situations. Duties include, but are not limited to: Enforce state laws, local ordinances, and university regulations. Issue summonses and/or make arrests as appropriate. Intervene using the appropriate level of force when necessary. Conduct shift-level investigations and secure crime scenes. Collect, preserve, and document evidence; provide testimony in court proceedings. Interview subjects, witnesses, and suspects; obtain written statements. Conduct motor-vehicle law enforcement, including radar and DWI enforcement, issuing citations and/or making arrests. Investigate vehicle crashes and complete required reports. Provide first aid and CPR as needed. Check, secure, and monitor buildings and facilities. Perform duties and special details specific to assigned shifts. Direct traffic and perform crowd-control duties during special events and emergency incidents.
