Job Summary Police Dispatch Analyst II works directly with the Dallas Police Department at a journey level, provides accurate and concise information through the Computer Aided Dispatch system to responding police personnel and assists in training of newly hired Police Dispatch Analysts. Job Description Overview The Police Dispatch Analyst II receives and analyzes calls and messages, and dispatches resources appropriately for police service, as well as trains, evaluates, and documents the performance of new Police Dispatcher Analysts. Provides accurate and concise information received through the Computer Aided Dispatch system, police radio transmissions, and various technologies utilized in an emergency communications center in support of police field units to promptly respond to 911 calls ensuring the safety of citizens and police officers. Responsible for professional and technical work in support of Police Department personnel to provide necessary support to field personnel via police radio, telephone, computer, and mobile data computers.

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Six (6) years of work experience in a heavy traffic high demand customer interface call environment with at least four (4) years’ experience as an emergency security dispatch analyst in a high demand municipality, in a public safety and emergency communication field or as a Police Dispatcher Analyst.
  • Must have NCIC/TCIC/CJIS certification.
  • Must have Advance Telecommunicator’s License from Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Must have Dallas Police Comminutions Training Officer (CTO) Certification.
  • Must have Emergency Police Dispatch Certificate.
  • Must have Expediter / Service Desk Personnel License.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Must pass an intensive background investigation and drug test.
  • No Felony or Class A Misdemeanor convictions or a current Felony, Class A or Class B Misdemeanor deferred adjudication.
  • No Class B Misdemeanor convictions within the last ten (10) years.
  • No family violence convictions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes all data received to strategically assign, broadcasts and monitor all police calls, according to the nature of the emergency and in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Analyzes the response plans for each incident dispatched to set up quadrants, coordinate with patrol and field units such as K-9, Air1 and SWAT, and to provide an overview analysis of resources needed at the scene.
  • Supports the field troops as needed. Escalates to department supervisors to identify the response of the police officers.
  • Documents and evaluates the daily progress of Police Dispatcher Analysts; identifies performance gaps, recommends and delivers appropriate training, and makes recommendations to the Training Supervisor on assigned staff progress.
  • Provides continuous peer guidance regarding emergency and technical procedures.
  • Maintains constant status of field units and updates dispatch information utilizing the various emergency communications technologies.
  • Notifies and receives police related information from other police divisions or agencies to ensure information is shared and disseminated promptly.
  • Informs field officers of major incidents, hazardous situations, or locations where such information will be beneficial to the safety of citizens and first responders.
  • Handles and operates equipment, computer terminals, and varying emergency communications technologies with incoming dispatch information to efficiently dispatch police officers throughout shift and engages with other police personnel at the same time to ensure prompt processing of requests and police information.
  • Engages with all police personnel at all times to ensure prompt allocation of resources per incident category and dispatches more help as appropriate.
  • Utilizes local, state and national law enforcement databases to provide immediate and updated critical information to first responders.
  • Operates various emergency communications hardware, software, and radio console equipment to provide real time incident updates to first responders.
  • Exercises independent judgement in interpreting information to ensure the Police Dispatcher Analyst’s mission of keeping citizens and officers safe.
  • Remains calm in a high stress environment. Reads, navigates, and interprets various mapping applications.
  • Reports to work during inclement weather and/or when staffing requires additional coverage in the emergency unit’s 24x7x365 operations.
  • Performs other work as needed or assigned.
