About The Position

Supervision of point of care testing personnel to ensure accurate and timely testing, performs validations and maintenance of point of care equipment and troubleshoots instruments not functioning according to specifications. The POCT Specialist is responsible for the coordination of and conducting of user training on lab services systems. Works with System POCT Coordinator on daily duties, future planning and resolving routine issues that may occur within Laboratory Services. Providing administrative and clinical/technical support as required.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent education/experience in related area of assigned department Required
  • At least 1 year experience of Clinical Laboratory experience Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Development and implementation of POCT policies and procedures as deemed necessary.
  • Coordinates the installation and upgrades of assigned systems/modules.
  • Maintain data integrity, maintenance, par adjustments, revenue and charge capture maintenance by reviewing various data reports.
  • Researches patient information.
  • Troubleshooting system problems and requests for changes in data information in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and assure data quality. Interacts with staff to assure full utilization of assigned modules and systems.
  • Monitor various network modules performance.
  • Preparation and validations for any new Methodologies and or systems or upgrades. Validates all devices before deploying them in the hospital units and clinics.
  • Maintains required records, reports and files for operational, administrative and compliance purposes.
  • Reviews daily QC records of all Point of Care testing sites. Reviews documentation by operators of remedial action taken for out-of-range QC.
  • Reviews daily and monthly instrument maintenance documentation for POCT instrumentation. Conducts operator initiated remedial actions and follows-up for all point of care tests and instruments.
  • Performs linearities, correlations and validations as necessary. Working knowledge of statistical program.
  • Maintains supplies, equipment and work area. Monitors inventory levels.
  • Monitors compliance of all units and operators with all regulatory requirements (including travel to the TN State Laboratory Board).
  • Coordinates and or conducts training/retraining, competency assessments and in-service refresher training of all POCT operators and Nurse Educators.
  • Reviews connectivity of all devices and follows up on any not transmitting patient data within the last 24 hour period that the unit/clinic was opened.
  • Enters operators into the appropriate POCT middleware and on devices, as required.
  • Participates in all performance improvement activities, where applicable. Prepares data for presentation at QA/QI meetings. Serves as a liaison; works collaboratively with information technology, hospital/medical staff, training and development and others in a customer responsive/professional manner and in compliance with iRESPECT standards to promote and coordinate the implementation of activities; to promote patient/customer satisfaction, answers inquiries and resolves operational program; communicates and interprets policies, procedure and standards of practices to promote an understanding and provide quality information services as assigned.
