About The Position

Western Sierra Medical Clinic is an engaging, enthusiastic, mission driven organization dedicated to providing high-quality primary care to all members of our community. This includes the delivery of evidence-based preventative care, chronic disease management, and addressing urgent care needs as indicated for our pediatric and adult patient population. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES The Podiatrist at WSMC is responsible for providing direct outpatient medical services to WSMC patients. S/he is responsible for rendering services that reflect current standards of medical care appropriate to the local medical community. S/he is responsible for coordination of care as appropriate, and for documentation as appropriate for continuity of care and risk management. S/he serves as a member of the health care team whose goals are described in the WSMC mission statement, and assumes responsibility as assigned for quality assurance/quality improvement efforts. S/he is responsible for diagnosing and treating medical conditions of the foot, ankle (if ankle licensed) and related structures including the tendons that insert into the foot and the nonsurgical treatment of the muscles and tendons of the leg.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain license to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • Position requires: Ability to obtain license to practice medicine in the state of California.
  • Current DEA.
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS).

Responsibilities

  • Obtain a relevant patient health and medical history
  • Initial and ongoing assessment of patient’s medical, physical, and psychosocial status
  • Conduct non-invasive preventive screening procedures based on age and history
  • Perform a physical examination based on age and history
  • Update and record changes in health status
  • Identify medical and health risks and needs
  • Identify needs of the individual, family or community as a result of the evaluation of the collected data
  • Formulate the appropriate differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and clinical findings
  • Develop and provide a relevant patient education plan
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic/laboratory tests
  • Prescribe non-pharmacologic therapies
  • Order and administer tests including bloodwork
  • Review and interpret test results
  • Administer medications
  • Operate medical equipment
  • Recommend further treatment options or future appointments if needed
  • Explain risks versus benefits of any procedures recommended in accordance with consent protocol
  • Collaborate with designated surgical facility as appropriate for continuity of care, scheduling and treatment planning
  • Prescribe and/or administer pharmacologic agents in accordance with standardized procedures
  • Determine the effectiveness of the plan of care through documentation of client care outcomes
  • Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies
  • Reassess and modify care plan as necessary to achieve medical and health goals
  • Deliver quality care while maintaining WSMC metrics pertaining to productivity
  • Participate in on-call assignments
  • Consult with patients by telephone as appropriate
  • Attend staff, departmental, and interdepartmental team meetings as assigned/applicable.
  • Participate in risk management activities
  • Document all pertinent information in patient’s electronic medical record according to Western Sierra Medical Clinic's policies and ensure patient records are kept up to date including test results, immunizations, condition changes, etc.
  • Uphold Western Sierra Medical Clinic's Policies and Procedures, infection control standards, applicable state, federal and local laws.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement activities, including Interdepartmental quality improvement team efforts; and Contributing to overall efforts toward higher-quality, more cost-effective health care for patients and improved quality of work-life for staff members
  • Cooperate and participate in peer review, health care risk management and compliance activities
  • Consult with other healthcare professionals as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
