About The Position

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a talented Plumbing/Fire Protection Engineer II to join our team at our headquarters in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years Engineering/design experience in the building design industry (for example, plumbing: drainage systems, utility systems, drainage/utility pump systems, sizing drainage/utility systems, water heaters, etc.).
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering from an accredited four-year College or University.
  • Experience in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer-aided drafting (AutoCAD/Revit).
  • General knowledge of Plumbing and Fire Protection system design and applicable codes.

Responsibilities

  • Assists or works with a Project Lead with design computations and quantity estimates, and develops probable construction cost estimates.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, and supports construction for projects.
  • Sets up views/sheets within Revit or AutoCAD for use on a project, utilizing established naming convention and drawing list prepared by the Project Lead.
  • Expected to become proficient in the use of a computer for Design and Revit / CAD applications.
  • Researches and selects equipment based on recommendations of the Project Lead and fills out equipment schedules.
  • Works with equipment suppliers/vendors to obtain the necessary information needed for design completion.
  • Creates or modifies drawings based on markups generated by others.
  • Researches design options and documents findings for the Project Lead.
  • Keeps the Project Lead informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
  • Researches code issues and communicates with other disciplines.
  • Ensures acceptable levels of quality and checks for coordination of work to assure documents reflect design intent and necessary coordination.
  • Learn how to perform basic plumbing engineering/design systems, such as all types of drainage and service utility systems (plan/riser/P&ID/details/schedules layout of these systems).
  • Learn how to perform basic fire protection engineering/design systems, such as all types of suppression systems and hazard classifications (wet/dry/pre-action/clean agent/foam/risers/details/schedules layout of these systems).
  • Creates specialized drawings, such as operations matrices, elevations, or details and diagrams.
  • Attend more site survey trips.
  • Start to perform the role of Project Lead for less complex projects within the business unit with assistance from engineers and designers.
