About The Position

Under general supervision of the Facilities Operations Manager of University Housing Maintenance, the Plumber performs the full range of skilled journey-level plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems. Department Summary Facilities Management and Development (FMD), a unit within the Administration and Finance Division (AFD), is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. FMD consists of four critical and interdependent support departments, including Customer & Business Services; Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability; Facilities Planning & Capital Projects (FPCP); and Facilities Operations. Requirements

  • Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber’s apprenticeship program.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
  • This position may require the ability to obtain AHERA Supervisor certification for asbestos related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training as well as the ability to wear respiratory protection.
  • A Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation is required prior to the use of a respirator.
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment.
  • The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants for staff and management positions must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot and test plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices.
  • Assemble, install and repair pumps, pipes, fittings, and fixtures.
  • Cut, thread and weld pipes.
  • Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of a variety of metals and materials.
