About The Position

Summary/Objective: Skilled work in the installation, repair and maintenance of all phases of plumbing. Assignments are received in the form of work orders, sometimes accompanied by drawings or blueprints. Work methods and procedures are usually determined by the employee and the work is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion. Supervision may be exercised over the work of a small number of employees. Essential Functions: Cleans out plugged sewer lines, repairs faucets, valves, mixing valves and backflow preventer. This includes toilet facilities, sewer facilities; showers, laundries, sinks, drinking fountains, portable water lines, domestic hot water lines, piping in hot water systems; steam heating systems and associated valves, traps, and safety devices. Responsible for the operation of septic systems and grease traps. Replaces toilets, urinals, sinks, and pipes (iron, steel, copper, plastic). Installs new facilities such as sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, expansion tanks, hose bibs, dishwashers, kitchen equipment and occasionally piping for fire sprinkler systems to existing utilities. Insulates both hot and cold-water lines and steam lines. Repairs and replaces existing sewer drain, water, vent lines and HVAC piping. Plans and initiates a preventative maintenance program in plumbing. Responds to emergencies. Directs the activities of other technicians. Performs work according to printed information on the Facilities Department work order system. Uses positive verbal and non-verbal skills when working with district personnel and community members at all times. Accomplishes duties of mechanical maintenance and repair without direct supervision on a daily basis. Operates heavy equipment as needed. Drives various fleet vehicles daily. Removes snow.. Maintenance of power tools and shop area. Assists other members of the department as needed. Inspects work of independent contractors. May be responsible for the District's Plumbing Contractor license. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Must have a valid Colorado State Master Plumber or Journeyman License.
  • Or any other combination of related education, experience, and training.
  • Skills equivalent to eight years of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair.
  • Expert knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices of mechanical trades and mechanical maintenance repair.
  • Ability to plan and execute new installations including a complete plumbing layout for a building.
  • Ability to estimate time and materials on any plumbing system installation.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with public and staff.
  • Ability to respond under pressure to emergency situations while maintaining courteous and professional relationships with staff and the public.
  • Ability to perform work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to follow and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to use good judgment and common sense.
  • Ability to follow established safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently and with others.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans (blueprints).
  • Ability to work from penciled sketches, blueprints and schematic drawings.
  • Skills in soldering and brazing.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Ability to perform all functions of the position.
  • Knowledge of Colorado and district content standards.
  • Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position.
