About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position provides facility maintenance support predominantly in the trade area of plumbing.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

  • Documented knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performing journey level duties in the installation, maintenance, and repair of air, gas, water, and waste disposal systems.
  • Performing routine work assignments based on the nature of the location of the needed repair with assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions.
  • Exercising considerable independence in performance of routine work while unprecedented assignments are usually discussed with or supervised by foreman.
  • Reviewing work through inspection of work in progress and on the basis of satisfactory operation of equipment repaired or installed.
