About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Salary Range: $37,782.00 - $66,120.00 This is a REPOST of position 60063447, 60066889. Previous applicants MUST REAPPLY to be considered. This position is located at North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) Raleigh, North Carolina. This facility houses approximately 1,776 female offenders for close, medium, and minimum custody. The person assigned to this position will directly report to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor I. The primary purpose of this position will consist of providing journey level duties in the installation maintenance & repair of air, gas, oil, water, and waste disposal systems. This position responsibilities include the following. Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification. The knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the vacancy announcement should be used as management preferences and be used to screen for the most qualified pool of applicants. Work Schedule This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits. The selected candidate work schedule will be Monday - Friday but may require adjustments at times due to emergencies or to meet the business needs of the facility. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the repair, replacement or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.

  • Documented knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Execute various methods of installation repair of commercial plumbing systems as well as safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
  • Provide physical labor using tools such as all types of hand and power tools associated with the plumbing trade.
  • Knowledgeable of safety codes related to building structures
  • Cutting and threading pipe utilizing motorized and mechanical tools.
  • Soldering copper pipe and utilizing the standard tools and materials required for this procedure.
  • Generating material lists for projects and submitting to supervisor for review.
  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Making up lead joints and installing various types of plastic pipe.
  • Replace stainless steel and porcelain plumbing fixtures within the facility
  • Respond to emergency situations and/or call backs in a timely manner
  • Supervising offenders engaged in semi-skilled
