About The Position

Iowa City Community School District Plumber Assistant JOB Description: Involves maintaining all district plumbing fixtures including but not limited to: flushometers, faucets, drains, water heaters, etc. This is a plumbing maintenance position with the possibility of advancement into a licensed trade. JOB GOALS: Under the supervision of the Craft’s Manger, assist in the repair, and maintenance of all plumbing systems in the district as well perform the duties to accomplish this in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.

Requirements

  • Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair commercial plumbing fixtures and systems.
  • Have knowledge of drain cleaning and use of drain cleaning equipment.
  • Able to maintain or replace gas and electric water heaters.
  • Able to obtain backflow license within first year of employment.
  • Able to gain the knowledge of local and state codes and industry standards.
  • Have general knowledge of tools, hangers, fasteners, etc. and their uses.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Able to coordinate and inspect work needing to be performed by service contractors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both verbal and written.
  • Maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with computers and email.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bending, lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, and continuous standing.
  • May be exposed to dust, dirt, chemicals, fumes, inclement weather and UV rays.
  • Work is both indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be physically and medically able to wear respiratory protection.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining all district plumbing fixtures including but not limited to: flushometers, faucets, drains, water heaters, etc.
  • Respond to critical needs at any time of day or night, extending beyond a typical workday in coordination with other facilities staff.
  • Coordinate and inspect work needing to be performed by service contractors.
  • Assist in the repair, and maintenance of all plumbing systems in the district
