About The Position

Under the supervision of the building Principal, the Playground Monitor is responsible for supervision of students on the playground and surrounding areas and/or in the cafeteria so that the safety and well being of all students is guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively apply techniques in working with students in the area of behavior management.
  • Must possess current First Aid/CPR certification, or be able to acquire within 45 days.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
  • Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others.
  • Supports a positive school environment that celebrates, respects and values diversity, where learning is made relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
  • Participates in activities and discussions that lead to increased cultural competence.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Ability to recognize each person as a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Supervise and monitor students on the playground and surrounding areas until they return to their respective classroom(s), keeping students out of hallways, away from parking lots, bike racks, and other areas that are considered unsafe.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and cooperative attitude on the playground.
  • Understand and enforce the playground rules and procedures.
  • Carry out discipline procedures as defined by the building principal.
  • Record any student behavior that is not acceptable and/or appropriate.
  • Identify unsafe playground equipment and submit a written report to the building principal outlining specifics problem(s).
  • Submit a written report of all playground injuries to the building principal as soon as they occur.
  • Perform first aid/CPR when necessary.
  • Perform cafeteria monitor duties when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
