About The Position

The Plastic Fusion Foreman is responsible for leading and coordinating thermoplastic piping installations and hook-ups to process tools in cleanroom environments. This includes overseeing crews performing IR, butt, socket, and hot-gas fusion on PVDF, PFA, HDPE, and PPH systems. This role ensures safe execution, quality control, and compliance with SEMI, OSHA, and project-specific requirements for UHP chemical and gas distribution. It requires strong coordination across trades, proactive leadership, and an uncompromising commitment to safety and first-pass quality.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on UHP thermoplastic fusion experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory or lead-hand role on semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or advanced tech projects.
  • Proficient in fusion of PVDF, PFA, PPH, and HDPE piping systems using IR, BCF, socket, and hot-air tools.
  • Working knowledge of SEMI standards (S2, S8, F15, F81) and ASME B31.3 Chapter VII for thermoplastics.
  • Skilled in interpreting and redlining 2D/3D piping models (Navisworks, AutoCAD Plant 3D) and P&IDs.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass site-specific background, drug screening, and cleanroom gowning requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • DVS 2207 certification or OEM certification (GF, AGRU, Asahi) for monitoring welder performance, preferred.
  • NCCER Pipefitter or equivalent journeyperson credential, preferred.
  • Completion of First-Line Supervisor training, TapRoot or 5-Whys incident investigation, preferred.
  • Experience with digital fusion loggers and barcode-based traceability platforms, preferred.
  • Spanish/English bilingual capability is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise up to 12 fusion technicians installing UHP plastic systems across multiple bays or tool sets.
  • Plan and execute daily work packs in alignment with project schedules, scope, and coordination plans.
  • Lead daily Pre-Task Plans (PTPs), ensure task readiness, and coordinate with superintendents, tool owners, and other trades to prevent scheduling or spatial conflicts.
  • Enforce full compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart J, SEMI S2/S8/F15, and site-specific confined space protocols (e.g., under RMF floors).
  • Lead lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures for chemical and process lines; verify confined space permits for subfloor or tool-skid access.
  • Conduct daily safety audits; document corrective actions, near-miss incidents, and proactive safety observations.
  • Interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and OEM hook-up schematics to create cut lists and define fusion parameters.
  • Oversee fusion processes including IR butt fusion, socket fusion, and hot-gas welding in accordance with DVS 2207, ASTM F2620, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Verify slope, support spacing, and expansion loop placement for chemical and drain systems.
  • Coordinate pressure and leak testing (e.g., hydrostatic, nitrogen, or helium), ensuring timely documentation of all QC checks.
  • Maintain detailed fusion logs, heat number traceability, weld maps, and turnover documentation packages.
  • Interface with QA/QC inspectors to resolve punch list items and achieve ≥98% first-pass yield.
  • Provide progress updates, manpower forecasts, and 2–3 week look-aheads to project and construction management.
  • Represent the Fusion discipline during install coordination meetings and customer walk-downs.
  • Support SOP improvements and crew training through feedback and best-practice sharing.
