About The Position

The Plant Superintendent is responsible for the overall coordination, safety, and efficiency of plant operations. This role ensures production targets are met while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, cost control, and employee engagement. The Plant Superintendent provides leadership to supervisors and frontline teams, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence. The incumbent must establish action plans to ensure that the operation meets budgetary standards, complies with regulatory requirements for food and personnel safety, meets established customer service standards, and obtains desired production schedules while maintaining existing fiscal objectives. The incumbent is also responsible for the training and development of staff (incl. hourly and salaried personnel) as well as maintaining a positive climate for employee relations. This incumbent needs to provide dynamic, energetic and motivational leadership to achieve operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5–10+ years of manufacturing experience, including leadership responsibility
  • Strong knowledge of production processes, safety regulations, and labor relations
  • Proven leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Equipment/Software Skills: MS Office Suite (Includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), AS 400
  • Must be able to interface with mainframe, general accounting, MRP, and order processing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with continuous improvement methodologies preferred
  • Familiarity with PLC, Warehouse Management Systems, Inventory Management Systems, Plant Automation Systems

Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety culture; ensure compliance with all OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards
  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
  • Maintain GMP, sanitation, and housekeeping standards
  • Oversee daily plant operations to meet production schedules, yield, and efficiency targets
  • Monitor KPIs (throughput, downtime, scrap, labor efficiency) and drive performance improvements
  • Ensure proper staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors and team leaders
  • Drive accountability, engagement, and positive employee relations
  • Support hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce cost and increase productivity
  • Support Lean, Six Sigma, or other CI initiatives
  • Partner with maintenance and engineering to improve equipment reliability
  • Ensure adherence to product quality standards and specifications
  • Collaborate with QA to address non-conformances and customer concerns
  • Work closely with Maintenance, Quality, HR, and Supply Chain to meet plant objectives
  • Support capital projects and operational upgrades
