About The Position

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Plant Operator. - Boca Raton, FL This position is responsible for the operational integrity of Florida Atlantic University’s Housing & Residential Education mechanical systems, which will support more 6,000 beds, 12 residence halls, on the Boca Raton and Jupiter campuses. The Plant Operator manages chiller plants, cooling towers, air handling units (AHUs), outside air units, chilled water pumps, and sewer lift stations, ensuring reliable and efficient performance through Trane, Siemens, and Johnson Controls building automation systems. This position is critical to maintaining optimal building temperature, humidity, ventilation, and wastewater operations that directly impact student living conditions and system reliability.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma and five years of appropriate experience required.
  • Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain chiller plants, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, and lift stations.
  • Conduct diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on AHUs, motors, coils, fans, dampers, and VFDs.
  • Optimize outside air systems (DOAS) for ventilation and humidity control.
  • Use BAS platforms (Trane Tracer, Siemens Desigo, JCI Metasys) for scheduling, trending, and fault detection.
  • Coordinate vendor activities for Trane, Siemens, JCI, and related mechanical service providers.
  • Supervise and oversee contracted personnel in chiller and lift station maintenance.
  • Track performance, efficiency, and system alarms via BAS, providing weekly reports to leadership.
  • Maintain compliance with refrigerant management, confined space, and environmental standards.
  • Support capital projects involving HVAC modernization, AHU replacement, and lift station reh abilitation.
  • Develops and manages PM schedules and ensures full documentation.
  • Travels to multiple work locations to perform essential duties.
  • Performs job-related duties as requested in the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
