About The Position

IHI Power Services Corp. (IPSC) has a career opportunity for a Plant Manager located at West Lorain Energy in Lorain, Ohio. The training and qualification program at West Lorain was designed to facilitate all levels of prior experience and knowledge. Training will be provided by web-based programs, self-paced curriculum, and hands-on experience. The Plant Manager is responsible for directing all Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities at the plant. The Plant Manager assures that an adequate supply of manpower, tools, equipment, and spare parts are available at all times to provide for the safe and efficient operation of the plant. The Plant Manager assures that the plant is operated in compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and power generating requirements. The Plant Manager determines own practices and procedures, contributing to the development of new concepts, and performing duties independently with only general directions given. Decisions are made within policy constraints. The Plant Manager encounters new and varied work situations, extremely complex in nature. This is in conjunction with IHI and Owner policies and with the approval of the IHI VP of Operation or IHI Director of Ops and the Owner's site representative. The Plant Manager is accountable for the plant's long-range planning. The Plant Manager must effectively communicate information to the Vice President, Power Plant Operations/Technical Services, Plant Supervisors, and client representatives relative to the overall operations of the plant. The Plant Manager must perform duties, and ensure all plant personnel are performing duties, in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times and in compliance with the applicable NERC Standards. The Plant Manager must perform duties, and ensure all plant personnel are performing duties, in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio. Requirements

  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent required.
  • 10+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • At least 3 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills required.
  • Must have 3-5 years in Gas Turbine experience or as a Power Plant Manager in another generation source.
  • Must possess basic math skills, good verbal communications skills, and be proficient with the use of power and precision tools.
  • Must be cooperative with those he/she contacts in this work and have the ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Must know the hazards involved and the safety precautions to be practiced in the operation and maintenance of power plant equipment and machinery.
  • Work within and insure strict adherence to all safety practices and procedures.
  • Must be able to respond to audio alarms and variations of sound.
  • Basic data entry/computer skills.
  • Work as a team. Must be able to pool our knowledge and energy to work in tandem to completely understand and productively respond to all business challenges.
  • Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, high voltage protective equipment and other equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • Requires working extended working hours, varied shifts or 12 hour shifts with weekend and holiday work as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. On call status (day and night) may be required.
  • Includes working indoors and outdoors.
  • Physical requirements include: possibility of working on feet for extensive periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing; and routinely lifting 50 pounds.
  • All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post ­offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
  • Must be able to work in elevated areas, confined spaces and in extreme heat and cold condition.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring that all plant personnel and plant objectives are in alignment with client requirements.
  • Administration and compliance with plant Safety, Operations, NERC , Maintenance, Administrative, Training, Chemistry and Environmental QNQC programs and ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the plant.
  • Manage and oversee the performance of planned and unplanned plant outages.
  • Implement training and qualification programs to assure that plant personnel are fully qualified to operate and maintain the facility and plant procedures are understood and properly followed by all plant personnel.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of plant policies and procedures to assure that they reflect current plant operating requirements.
  • Direct the sourcing, screening, and hiring of new or replacement personnel as needed.
  • Verify that the certification status of affected operation and maintenance personnel is maintained current.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to plant personnel and ensure that the morale and motivation of plant personnel is always maintained at a high level.
  • Develop a succession plan for key positions.
  • Oversee the preparation of required client and utility reports, budgets, environmental compliance reports, etc.
  • The Plant Manager supervises all site staff and has oversight responsibility for all contract work performed on behalf of the site (remote/on-site).
  • The Plant Manager is the single point of contact between IHI Power Services Corporation and the Owner on all matters pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the plant. The Plant Manager cooperates with other IHI Power Services Corporation division managers as needed.
