About The Position

A Plant Intern will support and maintain efficient and cost-effective facility operations adhering to compliance, safety, and environmental regulations under the supervision of plant management. Work as part of a team to complete daily tasks required to assist in operating and maintaining facility equipment and systems.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, trade school, military service or technical school training.
  • Possess the ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of CCGT power plants or equivalent education will be considered.
  • Mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekday shift vacancies, support plant start-ups, be on call and accept call-outs and overtime work on short notice.
  • Intermediate user PC skills.
  • General knowledge of safety and environmental regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Incumbents will rotate through the different areas of the plant to gain a working knowledge of power plant systems.
  • Assist with operational and mechanical activities to maximize plant availability and reliability.
  • Operate and monitor plant equipment and systems locally and remotely from the Control Room.
  • Perform regular equipment rounds, taking critical readings from instruments and reporting abnormal conditions to the appropriate entities.
  • Utilize plant informational systems to provide timely troubleshooting and repair of operational abnormalities.
  • Assist with mechanical maintenance tasks, routine Preventative Maintenance, and inspections and troubleshooting as assigned.
  • Assist in the development of standard operational procedures as assigned.
  • Adherence to safe working practices and identifying hazards, following through on corrective action in conjunction with the management team.
  • Support vendor relationships around plant production schedules.
  • Complete required plant training.
  • Assist with unloading, handling and transferring of bulk chemicals, de-mineralized water trailers, and taking of samples for analysis and testing.
  • Assist in Management of Change process, developing and implementing new ideas and initiatives.
  • Maintain plant housekeeping and security.
  • Perform other projects as assigned.
