About The Position

The Plant Engineer is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the engineering aspects of plant operations to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and productivity. This role involves managing equipment maintenance, implementing process improvements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Plant Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, enhance plant performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Oversee daily operations of maintenance employees to ensure completion of preventative maintenance and failure maintenance activities. Work with plant operations personnel to support daily production goals. Work with VP of operations and harvest and fabrication managers to lead overall maintenance department. Utilize plant systems to plan maintenance activities during production and non-production times. Coordinate and manage weekend projects with outside contractors. Oversee maintenance employees in trouble shooting of issues on plant equipment. Work with quality assurance in facility to ensure all equipment meets QA and USDA guidelines for food safety. Monitor and control downtime; provide solutions to reduce downtime. Ensure all company and safety policies and procedures are enforced and followed. Complete reports and other paperwork (e.g. discipline, progress evaluations, terminations). Ensure all machinery is performing to the highest standard possible. Maintain a helpful and professional attitude and appearance. Promote and drive succession development with areas of responsibility. NOTE: this description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Requirements

  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • 5-7 years supervising, planning, and scheduling hourly maintenance personnel.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration systems, steam, and hot water generation systems.
  • Experience in utilizing computerized maintenance management systems to deploy maintenance strategies.
  • Strong knowledge and troubleshooting of overhead conveying systems, conveyors, HVAC, hydraulics, compressed air systems, electrical systems, and equipment utilized in food processing.
  • Ability to communicate well (verbal and written) with all levels of employees from hourly to upper management.
  • Ability to identify and address safety hazards; promote safety on a daily basis.
  • Ability to lead by example, encourage teamwork and learning, and motivate the hourly workforce.
  • Must have a high math aptitude; be assertive; and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform consistent, accurate work with minimal direction and work successfully as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior supervisory experience in a USDA inspected beef, pork or poultry facility.
