About The Position

The Plant Engineer manages the activities of the engineering department to design new projects and improve production techniques; analyze technology trends and market demand to plan projects; determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and demand; forecast operating costs of the department and direct preparation of budget requests. The Engineer is also responsible for managing a team with a focus on process, strategy implementation and control. This individual will work very closely with OEMs to develop quality standards and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and a minimum of one year of work experience required, or a minimum of five years of progressive job experience including people, project, or account management with leadership and influencing skills required.
  • Engineering experience in a manufacturing plant, food and/or beverage preferred.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams.
  • Proficiency in project management related tools and software.

Responsibilities

  • Manage project scope, budget, and schedule for primary site as well as possible outside warehouse locations. Verify final design with customers and internal stakeholders to gain their buy-in to assure final product meets customer/stakeholder specifications and business objectives. Interact with and manage contractors and equipment manufacturers.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously including managing the installation of the purchased equipment or facility improvements to complete the capital expenditure. Remain current on Plant and Industry technical needs.
  • Complete project closeout including documentation, transfer of project records and document status of acceptance criteria. Manage documentation and records to ensure that they are complete, current, and easily retrievable.
  • Manage a team responsible for planning and continuous improvement including maintenance and other plant functional departments. Ensure projects are consistent with local and corporate standards.
  • Assess current production capabilities, identify bottlenecks, and will play a crucial role in identifying and mitigating potential risks to avoid disruptions during production to ensure Heartland CCs weekly production plans are met.
  • Coordinate resources to analyze and resolve production issues. Determine, implement, or evaluate effectiveness of corrective actions. Present technical presentations, communicate status of work to appropriate parties to keep them informed and involved.
  • Provide direction, leadership and coaching to operational and project team members.
  • Interact with the Operations Teams to conduct risk assessments, develop contingency plans, and update processes to minimize the impact of unforeseen events such as equipment and facility failures.
  • Assist in implementing quality control measures, conduct root cause analyses for any defects, and develop strategies to enhance overall product quality. Spearhead the integration of new and innovative technologies that enhance production processes.
  • Through careful analysis and optimization of processes, the plant engineer will develop cost reduction initiatives. This includes identifying areas for cost savings and implementing strategies to enhance the overall financial performance of the facility.
