About The Position

The Plant Controller is responsible for ensuring financial controls are in place, preparing financial information for business management, and advising plant leadership with financial data and analysis. This role involves accurate financial reporting, budget preparation, fixed asset accounting, audits, payroll preparation, and maintaining the standard costs system. The position supports multiple facilities and assists with physical inventory and reconciliation of results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Canadian Accounting Designation (CPA, CMA, CGA, CA).
  • Minimum of 5 years, preferably 7-10 years' experience in accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of SAP is required.
  • Previous practice in manufacturing/Inventory management principles.
  • Strong analytical abilities with knowledge of standard cost, costing, and accounting systems.
  • Experience working in SAP, OneStream or similar reporting systems is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of company Accounting and Control Policies and Procedures.
  • Proficiency in PC based word processing, spreadsheets and mainframe-based accounting systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and present annual site budgets and interim forecasts to management and Corporate Finance.
  • Prepare monthly financial summaries for plant and senior management, tracking spends to budget/forecast and reviewing variances with management teams.
  • Manage the local general ledger and account reconciliation process, including processing adjusting journal entries and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze plant labor, variable costs, operational spending, and inventory transactions to identify key improvement opportunities.
  • Lead development and analysis of quarterly standard costs and manage physical inventory and cycle count programs.
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing capital expenditure requests, tracking and reporting actual spends versus approved levels.
  • Monitor and enforce internal controls, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and procedures and SOX, including coordination of internal and external audits.
  • Support analytical and special projects needs of operations management teams, providing finance leadership for cost savings initiatives and tracking improvements.
  • Develop, analyze, and interpret statistical and accounting information to monitor operating results and performance against budget and prior year.
  • Responsible for monthly accounting close activities and balance sheet reconciliations.
