About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Plant Controller is to provide management, both corporate and plant, with accurate and timely accounting and financial analysis support to assist in making informed production, sales and marketing decisions and to direct an accounting staff. The role involves leading, coaching, engaging, and professionally developing team members with a focus on developing functional, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Responsibilities include preparing plant budgets and forecasts, developing and maintaining effective cost reporting and accounting mechanisms for production and inventory expenditures, and analyzing production, inventory, and labor costs while working with plant leadership to recommend and implement cost-saving opportunities. The Plant Controller will oversee fixed asset management, maintain accurate inventory records, assist in month-end closing, ensure proper coding of POs and invoices, and present plant financial results to senior leadership on a monthly basis.

Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of prior experience in a cost accounting capacity.
  • 2+ years of prior experience in a supervisory capacity in an accounting function.
  • Advanced PC and Internet navigation skills, particularly Excel.
  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to analyze financial data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Experience using an ERP (ideally SAP) to control supply chain financials.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, problem solving, presentation, and team member motivational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior Controller experience.
  • Cost Accounting experience in retail, food, grocery or a consumer goods organization.
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Greenfield Manufacturing experience.
  • CPA.
  • Prior business management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide management with accurate and timely accounting and financial analysis support.
  • Lead, coach, engage, and develop accounting team members.
  • Prepare plant budgets and forecasts.
  • Develop and maintain cost reporting and accounting mechanisms for production and inventory expenditures.
  • Analyze production, inventory, and labor costs.
  • Oversee fixed asset management including capitalizing, transferring, and retiring assets.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and administer plant cycle counting program.
  • Post transactions to the General Ledger and assist in month-end closing.
  • Ensure POs and invoices are properly coded to the correct general ledger accounts.
  • Assist in the evaluation and modification of accounting policy and procedure.
  • Support new item setup and costing of bill of materials.
  • Present plant financial results to senior leadership monthly.
  • Assist corporate cost accounting team in developing periodic reporting on key plant KPIs.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
