Position Summary: The Senior Plant Controller is a key member of the plant leadership team, overseeing all plant financial activities. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of plant financials, provides cost visibility, and supports strategic decision-making through detailed cost, labor, and inventory analyses. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of leading cross-functional financial initiatives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (MBA or CPA preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing finance, with at least 3 years in a plant controller or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards) and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics/Business Central is a plus
  • Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Exposure to standard costing, job order costing, or process costing environments
  • Familiarity with SOX compliance and internal controls

Responsibilities

  • Lead month-end and year-end closing activities for plant operations
  • Prepare and analyze monthly plant financial statements and variance reports
  • Forecast and manage plant budgets and projections, including cost improvement targets
  • Partner with operations leadership to drive financial performance and accountability
  • Analyze plant and SKU-level profitability, margin trends, and operational KPIs to support pricing and investment decisions.
  • Oversee physical inventory counts and cycle counts; ensure inventory accuracy
  • Analyze and reconcile inventory variances, including raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Implement internal controls and best practices to improve inventory management
  • Oversee cost development, absorption costing, and analysis of variances (labor, material, and overhead).
  • Maintain the cost system and update the bill of materials and routings as needed
  • Analyze product margins and recommend pricing or cost-saving actions
  • Monitor material, labor, and overhead cost variances and perform root cause analysis
  • Conduct labor efficiency and productivity analysis; support direct/indirect labor tracking
  • Provide detailed cost analysis for production, logistics, and support departments
  • Identify trends and opportunities for operational efficiency and cost reduction
  • Act as the financial liaison between plant operations and corporate finance
  • Collaborate with production and supply chain teams to improve cost control, scrap reduction, and throughput reporting.
  • Develop financial acumen across the plant leadership team
  • Support internal and external audits as required
