Argenta is currently looking to fill the role Plant Automation Engineer at our Shawnee, KS, location. this position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving system/equipment performance using analytical methods and processes. Effectively and efficiently provide project management, technical knowledge and skills, and administrative skills. Provide technical review and counsel on a variety of technical issues. This position will be the SME for utility, process, and facility systems automation controls. Responsibilities include design and operation of instrumentation, I/O devices, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA/data historians. This position also manages automation aspects of capital projects from design through operation. This person will design and implement new technologies, up-grades, and replacements. This person will also be responsible for software code development, graphics, databases, and configuration of applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Controls or similar engineering degree
  • 5+ years of industrial experience dealing with similar systems and managing projects similar in scope and size
  • Design of Control systems, PLC programming, Computer networking and interfacing experience highly desired. Knowledge of electrical distribution, load calculations and system one-lines. Computer literate with working knowledge of, MS-Word/Excel/PowerPoint or other graphics based software for system description/diagram
  • Hands on experience in programming/operation/maintenance of computer systems, HMI, and SCADA components
  • Experience with Rockwell Programming
  • Knowledgeable with regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, FDA, EU, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands
  • Ability to interpret and implement technical documentation and instructions
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the flexibility to collaborate effectively and support organizational goals

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ISA S88 and GAMP methodologies
  • Experience with Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block programming
  • Experience configuring Ethernet, DeviceNet, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • Working knowledge of SQL database administration
  • Experience with HMI graphic design and usability best practices
  • Experience tuning PID control loops
  • Familiarity with data historians and manufacturing data systems
  • Knowledge of building management systems and cleanroom/aseptic facility design

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, manage, and review the work of outside trade or technical firms as well as outside contractors for equipment, facilities, utilities, and other work
  • Prepare project budgets and ensure that activities stay within the budgetary guidelines established
  • Identify and initiate projects for electrical and control changes/improvements within the guidance established
  • Support all engineering documentation efforts including SOP’s, PM’s, and technical documents
  • Produce drawings and project proposals for review with management
  • Provide specifications and cost estimates for major equipment acquisitions
  • Provide programming support of SCaDA systems including HMI displays
  • Assure that facility/system engineering drawings and associated documentation are effectively and compliantly updated and maintained
  • Demonstrate strong project management skills to control multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Identify areas for cost containment
