About The Position

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Planning Intern to join our team. The position will work in a collaborative and integrated team of professionals that include landscape architects, civil engineers, planners, surveyors, environmental scientists, and transportation engineers. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

Requirements

  • In progress of obtaining a four-year degree in Planning or related field.
  • Computer skills including AutoCAD, Sketch-up, 3DS Max, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design), Microsoft Word, MS Excel, and Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Strong freehand illustration and computer rendering skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
  • Handle multiple priorities well.
  • Portfolio or work samples may be required if considered for an interview.

Nice To Haves

  • Working toward or desire to gain certification for American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
  • Working toward or gained sustainability credential (LEED and/or ENVISION).

Responsibilities

  • Work with the senior certified planner to build increasing skills to review and interpret regulatory codes, ordinances, and comprehensive plans.
  • Review and analyze land features relating to opportunities, constraints, and layout options for development.
  • Work with the senior certified planner to build increasing skills to prepare due diligence analysis, land development concepts, master development plans, and graphic illustrations using both digital and hand drawn formats.
  • Work with senior certified planners to develop and refine design solutions.
  • Use in depth knowledge of land planning theory and concepts in preparing land development concepts and master development plans.
  • Attend project meetings with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies to observe discussions and gain exposure to project coordination.
  • Assist in editing technical plans, details, and specifications.
  • Visit construction sites to gather information, review design intent, inform and support senior project team members during the construction phase.
