About The Position

This position provides an opportunity to learn more about various aspects of the planning profession and assisting with tasks related to zoning, planning, preservation, design, and land use. This internship will last for 8-10 weeks at 10-20 hours/week.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in college.
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or similar software.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning, historic preservation, public administration, architectural design, environmental planning, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to a team of professional planners and plan reviewers.
  • Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various projects.
  • Prepares maps, presentations, and planning reports of limited or variable complexity.
  • Assists in preparing for public review board meetings and community engagement events.
  • Utilizes strong research and analytical skills to explore land use policies, best practices, affordable housing strategies, design guidelines, and other planning related topics.
  • Conducts field work related to land use, development review, and historic preservation.
  • Works on specific planning projects depending on current events, issues, and needs.
  • Conducts basic office functions as needed, such as data entry, file management, and customer service.
  • Utilizes strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
