You will be integrated into active project teams, helping us solve complex problems related to climate resiliency, land use, and ecological restoration. You’ll work alongside seasoned planners, engineers, and scientists to see how infrastructure projects move from a concept to a permitted reality. Pay range is from $20-25/hr

Requirements

  • Education: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (Junior/Senior/Grad student) focusing on Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Environmental Science, or Geography.
  • Technical: Basic proficiency in ArcGIS is highly preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Word is a must.
  • Communication: Strong writing skills and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Curiosity: A genuine interest in how environmental regulations and sustainability practices shape the built environment.
  • Reliability: Ability to manage multiple small tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Research & Analysis: Conduct preliminary research on local zoning ordinances, environmental constraints, and property records.
  • Reporting: Assist in drafting sections of Environmental Assessment (EA) reports and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS).
  • GIS Mapping: Create and update maps using ArcGIS to visualize wetlands, floodplains, and project sites.
  • Permitting Support: Help compile and organize permit application packages for state and federal agencies (e.g., NJDEP, NYSDEC, or USACE).
  • Site Visits: Occasionally shadow senior staff during field visits for site inspections or environmental sampling.
  • Public Engagement: Assist in preparing presentation materials (boards, slides, and maps) for public hearings and stakeholder meetings.
