Job Description Overview The Planner II researches, reviews, and coordinates planning studies in various areas to make recommendations for organized and planned development within the City. Departmental Note: Planner II - (Conservation Districts): Under the guidance of a Chief Planner, the Planner II position seeks to protect and enhance the physical attributes that conserve the distinctive character of areas designated as Conservation Districts; reviews architectural plans and construction documents for residential structures for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with city ordinances and impact on designated neighborhoods; maintains a thorough understanding of historic architectural styles and appropriate treatments; conducts community meetings and attends neighborhood and civic events to engage with residents of existing and potential conservation districts; develops and implements conservation district designations; and prepares maps and other graphic illustrations. Strong customer service skills, oral/written communication skills, research skills, and interpersonal skills are essential. A background or demonstrated interest in historic preservation, architecture, or architectural history is required.
