CANDIDATES WHO ARE SELECTED FOR THIS POSITION MUST SHOW PROOF THAT THEY HAVE PASSED THIS EXAMINATION 3066. PERMANENT CHILD WELFARE SPECIALISTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community. The Office of Placement Administrations (OPA) is identified as the sole source of referrals for foster care placement of children placed or remanded to the case and custody of ACS. OPA seeks placement for children in all five boroughs of New York City. A Placement Specialist at OPA is responsible for liaising with provider agencies to expeditiously secure safe and appropriate placement for children entering foster care. The placement specialist troubleshoots placement related issues with providers and addresses issues that may cause delays with placement. This is accomplished via the provision of crucial placement information and regular advocacy for the placement of children in the community as well as at the Nicholas Scoppetta Children’s Center.
