Position Overview Pipeline Product Development Intern. This position is based in Madison, WI. The Pipeline Product Development Intern will support activities aimed at advancing future cancer diagnostic products for Exact Sciences. The ideal candidate is pursuing an undergraduate degree in the life sciences—such as chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology—and has hands-on laboratory experience through research, coursework, or related work. Candidates should be familiar with scientific methodology, basic statistical principles, and demonstrate strong attention to detail, along with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment. During the internship, the intern will gain valuable exposure to the biotechnology industry, with a focus on the product development process, including: Reagent development Assay development and optimization Design transfer Analytical verification and validation Working under the guidance of experienced scientists, the intern will assist with: Executing bench experiments Assembling and analyzing data Presenting findings to contribute to new product development or improvement of existing products

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in a Life Sciences field.
  • Basic computer skills, including internet navigation, email, and word processing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic, bench level experiments
  • Assist with general laboratory duties
  • Generate data and analyze results
  • Assist with specimen processing including but not limited to blood and stool
  • Assist with DNA extraction methods
  • Assist with nucleic acid amplification methods
  • Assist with immunoassay methods
  • Assist with other support duties as assigned
  • Safely operate scientific instrumentation and equipment
  • Effectively utilize and apply established methods or technologies
  • Maintain an accurate lab notebook
  • Ability to complete assignments in expected time frame
  • Ability to work in a BSL-2 environment following Biosafety guidelines
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools and equipment
  • Maintain an updated training record
  • Display strong written and oral communication skills including communicating experimental results to supervisor and other scientists
  • Display a strong attention to detail
  • Display strong ability to communicate and work effectively within team and department

  • Ability to use various types of laboratory equipment; including microscopes, microtomes, blades, strainers, and pipettes for extended periods of time.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • Ability to use near vision to view samples at close range.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.
