About The Position

This is a 7 day on / 7 day off rotational shift position that supervises and performs pipeline operations, maintenance, regulatory compliance, inspections, meter proving, leak alarm response and other duties as assigned for crude pipeline systems.

Requirements

  • Must have pipeline knowledge and experience, and capability to take on a wide range of pipeline responsibilities resulting in safe operating conditions and in compliance with government regulations.
  • Must have comprehensive knowledge of the overall operations and maintenance of a crude oil pipeline system and associated equipment.
  • Must have competence with Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Must have demonstrated mechanical aptitude in the use of hand and pneumatic tools.
  • Must understand Computational Pipeline Monitoring Systems or the ability to learn Computational Pipeline Monitoring Systems and associated network architecture, balance calculations, instrumentation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical operational manuals.
  • Math and computer skills with ability to calculate flows, temperature/pressure differences, and gain proficiency in computational pipeline monitoring software.
  • Basic knowledge of pipeline cathodic protection and protective coatings.
  • A valid driver’s license to drive company vehicles.
  • Have ability to proficiently speak, read, and write English.
  • Must be organized and proficient in record keeping.
  • Ability to pass Operator Qualifications for covered tasks as defined in CFR 195.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills working in a team environment.
  • Ability to work alone and with minimal supervision.
  • Degree or Certificate required in Process Technology, Construction Management, Engineering or equivalent.
  • 8-10 Years of experience as a pipeline operator, technician or supervisor.
  • Occasionally lift or carry moderately heavy equipment up to 50 pounds, working, stooping, kneeling, bending, climbing and walking distances in all types of terrain.
  • May be required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch for reasonable periods of time.
  • Work with or near hazardous chemicals.
  • Operate personal computer for extended periods.
  • Work outdoors in weather extremes and near equipment with potentially high noise levels.
  • Operate basic equipment, such as tractor lawn mower, forklift, and truck with snow plow.
  • Respond to emergency calls and/or call-outs and return to work while off duty.
  • Work extended hours (scheduled and/or unscheduled, nights and/or weekends), occasionally, as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
  • Based on business requirements, may be assigned to shiftwork.
  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing, stooping, reaching, pulling, pushing, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling and grasping.
  • Work in areas with limited access or cramped spaces.
  • Climb ladders, walkways and scaffolds.
  • Fit testing for a respirator is required, which requires face to be clean shaven.

  • Experience with AutoCAD and GIS software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand, practice and continually lead by example Doyon Energy Services and Mid-Alaska Pipeline’s commitment to zero incident safety and environmental culture.
  • Comply with pipeline safety and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and ensure that pipeline conditions and issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Plan, conduct, and lead pipeline-operation and maintenance related tasks of a complex nature.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are performed according to applicable codes, regulations and plan them to be completed within regulatory time frames.
  • When on shift, respond to Leak Detection Alarm notifications on a 24/7 basis. Monitor and respond to system alarms and respond to call outs as needed.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of the mechanical operations of equipment such as ball valves, gate valves, relief valves, meters, instrumentation, and other pipeline-related equipment.
  • Perform Lock Out Tag Out procedures for necessary work as required for hot and cold work in facilities.
  • Write simple and complex procedures for hot and cold work in facilities.
  • Identify, report, and initiate immediate actions to correct abnormal operating conditions associated with pipeline assets within standard parameters.
  • Develop operational procedures such as pigging, operations, maintenance and emergency procedures.
  • Proactively evaluate pipeline system and equipment performance and initiate standard adjustments, as needed, to increase the pipeline system efficiency.
  • Proactively perform troubleshooting and analysis of complex operational issues. Activities include troubleshooting operational issues with meters, valves, pressure gauges/transmitters, temperature gauges/transmitters, computational pipeline monitoring and other pipeline-related equipment.
  • Develop project scopes for maintenance activities, work with third-party contractors to obtain cost estimates, and coordinate execution of the projects.
  • Develop budgets for operational and maintenance activities.
  • Complete operational forms and records to meet regulatory documentation requirements.
  • Manage and ensure line-locate requests are completed in accordance with Damage Prevention Regulations, utilizing Line Locating Equipment.
  • Strong understanding of all pipeline maintenance and operations equipment. Activities may include valve maintenance, filter changes, pigging, liquid handling, meter maintenance, instrumentation verification, etc.
  • Conduct and manage meter proving operations and scheduling, for multiple customers.
  • Plan and conduct routine monitoring and inspection of pipeline assets. Activities include performing facility inspections and documenting operating conditions (i.e., pressures, temperatures, volumes, cathodic protection, etc.).
  • Conduct & review routine patrols of ROW’s to ensure there are no encroachments or construction activities potentially affecting the pipeline assets.
  • Direct and if needed perform ROW maintenance, including snow removal and lawn mowing.
  • Be available 24/7 for emergency response.
  • Maintain all records and reports as required for compliance purposes.
  • For all work performed complete appropriate forms or documentation, assist supervisor with regulatory compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
