The employee will be required to layout, install, and repair a variety of air, steam, water, gas, Freon, hydraulic lines, sanitary piping and equipment. Needs to have working knowledge of high and low pressure oil lines. Employee will be asked to assist with replacement of piping on industrial equipment while working under the direction of supervisor or other mechanical trades skilled employee. Works with such materials as copper, PVC, CPVC, ABS, Galvanized steel, PEX, black iron, cast iron, etc. Identification and removal of lead tubes and pipes as needed. Please note Seniority may determine shift assignments, this role has a high probability of requiring offshift schedule. PLEASE NOTE: This position will be filled on an off shift. Requirements

  • Ability to utilize basic construction measurement tools to estimate material requirements and ensure the material can be moved in and out of the facility and construction area with proper clearance and assuring safety of other employees working in or around that area.
  • Must use appropriate PPE. Demonstrate a commitment to following safe procedures and adhere to safe repair practices.
  • Checks work by use of precision measuring instruments including but not limited to leveling tools, pressure gauges and digital measuring devices.
  • Willingness and ability to instruct and assist less experienced pipefitter-plumbers.
  • A physically demanding role with exposure to loud noises, potential hazards, and often dirty environments, requiring the use of protective gear, frequent standing, working in tight spaces and difficult positions especially when making overhead installations. Frequent physical effort is required to operate threading and cutting tools.
  • Safely Operate motorized carts, handling equipment, and lifts for overhead work. Will be required to maintain certifications.
  • Must have a Journeyman's Plumbers license that is current with the State of Maryland.
  • HS Diploma/GED equivalent
  • Minimum of 4 years of related work experience in the pipefitter and plumbing trade.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding and applying relevant building codes for plumbing
  • Completion of Plumbers & Steamfitters Apprenticeship program.
  • Experience working in and around chemical tanks, acid, plating, sodium nitrate tanks, lift stations, autoclaves and other large equipment and maintaining plumbing in a large industrial settings.
  • Experience with gas fitting and gas compliance codes
  • Welding techniques, pipe welding, and specific welding certifications relevant to the trade
  • OSHA 10-hour certification or greater.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes mechanical knowledge to assist with planning and performing overhead pipe removal and instullations to ensure safety protocols are followed. Utilize safe rigging techniques.
  • Lays out pipe to proper lengths, cuts, reams, threads, and makes any bonds that are required.
  • Makes proper connections of pipes by threading using standard couplings and unions.
  • Installs piping to appropriate fixtures, concealing pipe in floor or suspending pipe from ceiling, according to specifications.
  • Installs water, sanitary and drainage fixtures, equipment and devices.
  • Opens clogged drains, and systems by mechanical or approved chemical means.
  • Replaces a variety of sections, parts, and appliances, including gaskets, washers and valves.
  • Obtains replacement material from stock, and or works with facilities engineering, OEM, and or supervisors to ensure proper materials are available to complete the assigned task.
  • Request necessary tools from the tool crib, and or other Maintenance and facilities employees. If tools are not on site and will be required, must work with Supervisor to ensure Facilities Engineers can procure or rent proper equipment.
  • Practice good house keeping habits and ensure area is kept clean. When the assigned job is complete ensure all materials is disposed of or stored correctly and all tools and equipment are removed. Practice 5S.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, specifications and bill of materiel in order to plan the sequence of operations when repairing or performing new installations. Will require work to be done in and around chemical tanks, acid, plating, sodium nitrate tanks, lift stations, autoclaves and other large equipment and industrial settings.
  • Ability to work from work orders, service requests, blueprints, combined with verbal information from Senior employees in your field of expertise, supervisor/management.
  • Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned.
