About The Position

This unit exists to maintain all campus facilities and support systems, assure that the facilities and support systems are maintained according to all applicable regulatory standards’, provides a safe sanitary environment for faculty, staff, students, guests and community members at large. Meet the facilities needs of the Colorado State University Pueblo customers. Manage available resources to provide a physical environment at the highest quality possible. Total Facilities are approximately 1.5 million sq. ft. at multiple sites. This position is a part of the Pipe/Mechanical Trades series, the full series description can be found here.

Requirements

  • Journeyman's License (HVAC)
  • Three (3) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position OR Education and Experience: A combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years
  • Conditions of Employment Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires)
  • Unrestricted State Issued Driver's License
  • Essential Services Designation

Nice To Haves

  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs, CMMS platforms (TMA, etc.), and documentation best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of refrigeration systems, including recovery, evacuation, charging, and leak detection in compliance with EPA and ASHRAE standards.
  • Experience evaluating system performance using BAS trend data, instrumentation, and diagnostic tooling.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, sequence of operations, and equipment submittals.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair & install HVAC equipment/refrigeration equipment
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install all HVAC equipment in all campus buildings in compliance with manufacturers recommendations, local codes, Health department and all all applicable standards.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair and install refrigeration equipment in all campus buildings in compliance with manufacturers recommendations, local codes, Health Department, and ASHRAE standards. This includes refrigerant handling, recovery and charging in accordance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Specify and evaluate all types of commercial air conditioning and refrigeration equipment including but not limited to: cooling towers, chillers, air handlers, RTU's, heat pumps, mini split systems, VFD's,VAV's, ductwork and other related equipment for customers, to include calculating of loads, estimates of material list and ordering of parts required for installation of equipment. Ensure equipment meets all regulatory requirements. Determine if infrastructure will support equipment being evaluated. Verify that equipment meets customers’ needs. Researching regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and repair pumps and valves Utilize working knowledge of pumps and valves to conduct maintenance and repair of various pumps and control valves. This includes refrigerant recovery and charging in according with State and Federal regulations, electrical and pneumatic control repair and replacement, piping, cooling towers, absorption chillers, water cooled chillers, and direct expansion units.
  • BAS - Building automation systems Monitor, Install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair building automation controls and systems to ensure the proper operation of air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. These controls include, but not limited to, electric, pneumatic, and DDC. Use building automation system to determine if out of tolerance conditions exist in the system.
  • Other duties as assigned Additional duties other than those normally required by this position. Duties may be assisting other facilities staff departments and trades and may be performed at different sites requiring driving of State vehicles from site to site. Work in team setting related to campus inclement weather and snow operations. Perform snow removal functions using vehicle equipment snow plows, snow blowers, snow shovels and UTV's with plows
