About The Position

The Pipe Foreman supervises field operations for water, sewer, and storm drain projects. This role involves directly supervising and coordinating activities of the utility crew while also engaging in trade work as necessary. The Pipe Foreman ensures that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Pipe Foreman or related role preferred.
  • Strong ability to understand work directions and communicate effectively with teams and management.
  • Expertise in pipe installation methods and best practices.
  • Ability to operate and oversee heavy equipment for utility installation.
  • Strong knowledge of grading, soil classifications, and drainage solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, plans, and specifications.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills.
  • Constant physical effort, including standing for extended periods during an 8+ hour work shift.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, crouch, and lift at least 50 lbs frequently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
  • Maintain constant awareness of multiple concurrent activities on the job site, including equipment operation and crew movements.
  • Frequently walk on uneven terrain in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
  • Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including excavations up to 20 feet deep using ladders or crawling.
  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to high noise levels, grease, dust, and dirt, typical of construction projects.
  • Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • May involve handling common construction substances, such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a safety-first mindset and enforces all safety protocols.
  • Directly supervises the pipe/utility crew and ensures adherence to project timelines.
  • Reports daily progress and challenges to the Utility Superintendent.
  • Oversees installation of water, sewer, and storm drain systems.
  • Works with Soil Techs and Survey Scheduling in coordination with the Pipe Superintendent.
  • Understands and ensures compliance with production and quantity requirements.
  • Proficient in all types of equipment required for pipe installation.
  • Knowledgeable in pipe percentages, material types, elevations, grades, and soil classifications.
  • Reads, understands, and interprets construction drawings and specifications.
  • Monitors and documents time and material usage on a daily or weekly basis.
  • Ensures that all crew members follow safety protocols, including OSHA 10 compliance.
  • Conducts safety orientations and coaching sessions to improve worksite safety.
  • Monitors and reports on safety performance and improvement opportunities.
  • Maintains a clean and organized job site, ensuring all hazards are addressed.
  • Professionally communicates with supervisors, teammates, contractors, clients, and vendors.
  • Coordinates with other site teams, including survey and engineering crews.
  • Ensures that all field activities align with project goals and deadlines.
  • Provides real-time updates on site conditions and crew performance.
  • Performs incidental duties as required, including tasks within other construction crafts.
  • Available for day or night shifts, including weekends as necessary.
