About The Position

The Fitter is responsible for fitting piping and/or structural components as per supplied drawings or field-verified dimensions while adhering to Acadian or customer welding procedure requirements. This role demands efficient, productive work, clear communication with assigned helpers and welders, and a professional approach to work relationships. The Fitter is ultimately accountable for the quality of their workmanship and productivity. Acadian Contractors, Inc. maintains a continuing policy of non-discrimination in employment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in piping, vessel, and packaged equipment fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of material take-offs, pipe and beam cutting procedures, and equipment utilization.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to project and drawing specifications.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills to guide helpers and ensure project success.
  • Commitment to safety, punctuality, and maintaining a clean work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform material take-offs on drawings to determine required cut lengths.
  • Operate pipe/beam cutting machines or, when unavailable, use beveling machines to cut pipe to the necessary length. Coordinate with the Shop Foreman to assign personnel or issue a cut list if needed.
  • Communicate effectively with helpers to ensure the appropriate materials and equipment are prepared for each project task.
  • Bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts securely in position for welding.
  • Verify that all materials (pipes, structural components, fittings) match the drawing specifications, including size, rating, grade, project number, and phase. Report any discrepancies to the Shop Foreman.
  • Confirm all measurements, ensuring square and level components before releasing them to the welder.
  • Record pre-weld dimensions on fitter drawings for accuracy and quality control.
  • Transfer heat numbers to drawings and cut sheets upon completion and submit to the Shop Foreman.
  • Ensure all fabricated items are tagged with the correct job number, customer name, and piece number for identification.
  • Transfer heat numbers and job numbers to all material drop-offs and coordinate with the Shop Foreman for inventory or storage movement.
  • Maintain punctual attendance and adhere to the work schedule consistently.
  • Conduct daily inspections of all equipment, including torches, torch hoses, grinders, levels, tapes, etc., to ensure proper function and safety.
  • Keep the work area clean and safe by sweeping and maintaining a tidy environment as needed.
  • Complete and discuss a thorough Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA) before each task.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards customer service and represent ACI professionally at all times.
