Provider Investigations Manager – Starting Market Rate Salary $89,692.85 A Provider Investigations Manager oversees a unit of investigators responsible for investigating abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults and children in State Hospitals, Managed Care, and Community Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) services. Investigations conducted by the unit are completed in accordance with Texas Administrative Code and Provider Investigations Policy. The unit may include an administrative assistant who is accountable for supporting the unit(s). The position interacts routinely with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, individuals receiving services, representatives from different organizations, facilities, providers, and the general public. This position offers a competitive starting salary; excellent state benefits, including health insurance and retirement; and the opportunity to regularly travel to within a region and across the state. This position can telework in accordance with department policy and may need to work outside their typical schedule which may exceed 40 hours in one week dependent upon business need. Works occasionally outside of regular working hours (8 am – 5 pm), which may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays, as required for case-related functions and/or as required by management. Attends work regularly in accordance with agency leave policy.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of agency policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Knowledge of the population Provider Investigations serves adults and children with mental health issues and intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of Texas laws relating to Provider Investigations and protective services.
  • Skill in investigating and resolving complex abuse, neglect, and exploitation cases.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to organize the workloads of direct reports, considering capabilities, limitations, and department policies/procedures.
  • Ability to operate essential office equipment, including a computer, tablet, or laptop device, smartphone, and various software packages, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work in a potentially emotion-filled environment.
  • Ability to travel to in-person meetings, conferences, and into the field as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Master’s degree in an applicable field (psychology, sociology, criminal justice, social work, family counseling, family relations, human development, etc.) from a college or university; or
  • Master’s degree in another field, plus two (2) years’ work experience dealing with problems concerning protective services; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field plus two (2) years of work experience dealing with problems concerning protective services or
  • One (1) year of full-time experience as an Inspector V.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and manages unit operations to achieve program, district, and agency objectives by monitoring budgets and workloads, consulting with direct reports on case-related issues, approving leave, and holding unit meetings.
  • Participates in hiring processes for direct reports, including scheduling interviews, completing new hire paperwork, orientation, etc.
  • Manages and develops direct reports by reviewing performance data, conferences, training, and performance appraisal.
  • Communicates program policy and procedures to direct reports, other agencies, external stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Evaluates unit performance through case readings, data reports, and observation of unit operations to ensure unit compliance with policy, procedure, and service control requirements.
  • Keeps management informed of high-profile investigations, unit concerns, and other applicable issues.
  • Makes presentations and participates in community awareness and related activities to inform the public about the program.
  • Responds to communication from individuals receiving services, their families, or others regarding case actions or related issues.
  • Participates in their professional development by attending training, including all agency required training.
  • Performs other duties as assigned and required to maintain unit operations.
