The duties for this professional faculty position fall into two categories: teaching and citizenship. While the exact percentages will likely vary over time due to the needs of the department, the initial estimate is 80% teaching and 20% citizenship. Teaching: Teach undergraduate physics and astronomy courses, experimental and computational lab courses, and physical science courses, which are intellectually enlarging, spiritually strengthening, and character building. Develop course materials including syllabi, lectures, discussion materials, assignments and assessments that are aligned with department and course learning outcomes and the aims of a BYU education. Incorporate inclusive, evidence-based, and active learning strategies in course delivery that promote student growth and habits supportive of lifelong learning. Provide academic support to students through regular office hours, feedback, and mentorship to encourage students to reach their divine potential. Participate in course and curriculum development and assessment activities in the department. Mentor student teaching assistants through supervision and training in course content and in facilitating effective learning strategies in recitation sections, lab sections, and large help settings. Citizenship Under the direction of the Department Chair, contribute to the administrative councils and committees in the department. Contribute to the overall sense of support, belonging, and peacemaking in the department. Participate in University committees, if requested.
