The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, invites applications for a faculty position to begin August 2026. Requirements

  • PhD in physics or astronomy or related field
  • Ability to pursue a strong and independent research agenda
  • A clear commitment to both undergraduate and graduate teaching
  • All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.
  • All faculty are required to abide by the university's Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.
  • Successful candidates are expected to support and contribute to the academic and religious missions of the university within the context of the principles and doctrine of the affiliated church.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent teaching and research mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Participate in various forms of service to the department, university, and their research community
  • Develop externally funded research programs of significance
  • Publish in quality, peer-reviewed journals
