About The Position

The Physician provides daily management and treatment of patients at the Clinic/Practice, including diagnosis, treatment, and referral. This role involves establishing office policies, procedures, and medical protocols, and appropriately referring patients to specialists. The Physician must comply with BMA/BCHS policies, procedures, pricing, and case management protocols, utilizing program forms/computer systems for charting. They will assist with the clinic/practice’s quality assurance and quality improvement plan and work with Administration to ensure the program operates consistent with appropriate medical policy and professional standards. The role also includes participating in community events and public relations calls as time permits, maintaining telephone contact with patients, payers, and pharmacies, and performing various physical exams such as Routine, Department of Transportation (DOT), Post-Offer, Executive, Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Annual, and School/Sport Physicals. The Physician may also serve as a Medical Review Officer (MRO) for drug screens or as Director for on-site Laboratory services if applicable. Key accountabilities include daily patient management and treatment, directing appropriate clinical services, tests, and referrals, performing physical exams and developing treatment plans, and maintaining patient contact. Compliance with BCHS policies, clinical protocols, quality assurance, and continuing education is 25% of the role. Working with administration on medical policies and procedures, giving feedback on treatment protocols, and participating in community events accounts for another 25%. The role emphasizes good communication, protecting patient confidentiality and privacy, demonstrating professionalism and excellence, taking ownership and stewardship of work, and fostering teamwork and commitment to co-workers.

Requirements

  • Current valid & unrestricted license to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  • Current valid & unrestricted DEA registration number.
  • Eligible at all times to be insured for professional liability insurance.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in appropriate specialty.
  • BCLS required.
  • Excellent understanding of limits and appropriate supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate with other departments.
  • Assist the surgeon in the office and operating room until all patients have been taken care of.
  • Familiarity with laws and state regulations relation to advanced nursing practice.
  • Desire to maintain high level of quality of care.
  • Promote application of research to clinical setting.
  • Ability to constantly concentrate on minimal and fine detail with some interruption.
  • Ability to frequently attend to task/function for more than 60 minutes at a time and to frequently attend to task/function for less than 10 minutes at a time.
  • Ability to frequently understand and relate to concepts behind specific ideas, to frequently understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts.
  • Ability to constantly remember multiple tasks/functions given to self and others over long periods of time.
  • Ability to constantly communicate verbally and in writing using advanced level vocabulary and advanced writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate in reassuring fashion with patients and family's.
  • Clerical perception needed to prevent errors in proofreading prescription labels and other work performed by others.

Responsibilities

  • Appropriately refer patients to medical specialists.

  • Work with Administration to ensure that the program operates in a manner consistent with appropriate medical policy and current professional standards in specific area of care.
  • Participate in community events and periodic public relations calls as time permits.
  • Maintain appropriate telephone contact with patients, payers and pharmacies.
  • Perform physical exams to include, but not limited to: Routine Examinations, Department of Transportation (DOT) examinations, Post-Offer Examinations, Executive Physicals, Commercial Drivers License (CDL), Annual Examinations, and School/Sport Physicals.
  • Serve as Medical Review Officer (MRO) for drug screens (if applicable).
  • Serve as Director for on-site Laboratory services (if applicable to specific site).
  • Participate in chart reviews and staff education when appropriate and maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Give feedback regarding treatment protocols.
