About The Position

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. VHA Physician Total Rewards. The Urologist is an integral member of the Surgery Section medical staff. You are responsible for performing urological procedures on patients referred to the Surgery Service by Primary Care and Specialty providers.

Requirements

  • Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Responsibilities

  • Performing initial histories and physical examinations on inpatients and outpatients.
  • Providing ongoing outpatient and inpatient care for assigned patients.
  • Screening outpatients to determine need for further care.
  • Prescribing medications within defined scope of practice.
  • Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-rays, electrocardiograms (EKG's).
  • Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities.
  • Drawing blood specimens for testing and performing other comparable lab procedures as needed.
  • Initiating and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests and studies.
  • Making interim summaries of the patient's medical record.
  • Dictating history and physicals, admission notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Dictating notes on procedures performed for which the Urologist is responsible through participating in the care of Veteran patients in the Operating Room.
  • Mixing, starting and administrating IV solutions/medications.
  • Assisting in continuing the endoscopic/surgical program for urology at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center.
  • Providing consultative services in the Emergency Department.
  • Sharing night call and weekends with other urologists.
  • Providing education and counseling of patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
  • Providing age-appropriate care for the adult and geriatric patient.
  • Responsible for understanding the aging process and to modify treatment plans to accommodate the changes that occur with aging.
  • Assisting with collateral duties within the surgery section.
  • Conduct C&P urology exams.
  • Provider properly utilizes Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) according to manufacturer's guidelines, including but not limited to flexible/rigid scopes, instrumentation, video equipment, Doppler/ultrasound equipment, intubation equipment, and other equipment that would apply to their specialty.
  • Compliance would be evidenced by observation of proper care.
  • Accuracy and reliability are required in the treatment of patients to alleviate the need for unnecessary procedures with increased risk.
  • The physician is responsible for maintaining current clinical privileges and keeping licensure, CPR, ACLS, and all other appropriate documents up to date.
  • The urologist will observe normal safety precautions for protection in hazardous patient care environments with regards to biological contamination, i.e. universal precautions.
  • The urologist will also observe precautions with respect to physical and electrical hazards.
