For more information about our company, visit CuranaHealth.com. Summary We’re looking for a compassionate and collaborative physician to join our inpatient palliative care team on a PRN basis. This role is ideal for someone who values time with patients and families, enjoys partnering with an interdisciplinary care team, and finds purpose in helping people navigate serious illness with dignity, relief, and clarity.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree with active, unrestricted license in state of practice
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice & Palliative Medicine, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, or Family Medicine
  • Prior experience in palliative care strongly preferred (inpatient experience ideal)
  • DEA license (or eligibility) and ability to prescribe controlled medications
  • Clear, compassionate communicator with strong listening skills and emotional intelligence
  • Comfortable facilitating complex conversations and guiding families under stress
  • Commitment to delivering equitable, person-centered care to diverse patient populations
  • This role requires travel to and from one or more assigned facilities.
  • Depending on the amount of travel required, Curana may in future determine that a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable driving record are required.
  • Periodic motor vehicle (MVR) checks may be conducted as a condition of, and/or for, continued employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient palliative consultations focused on symptom management, goals of care, advance care planning, and support for complex decision-making
  • Maintain a patient-centered approach that prioritizes comfort, autonomy, and aligned care plans
  • Collaborate closely with hospitalists, specialists, nursing, social work, chaplaincy, therapy, and case management
  • Document clearly and thoroughly to support continuity of care, safety, and billing compliance
  • Participate in family meetings to ensure shared understanding of clinical status, treatment options, and patient wishes
  • Serve as a clinical resource on palliative care principles and best practices
  • Support transitions of care to hospice, home-based palliative programs, long-term care, or other appropriate settings when indicated
