Riverside Medical Group is currently seeking a LABOR POOL board-certified or board-eligible Trauma / Acute Care Surgeon to join our Level II Trauma/ACS surgical team at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia You would join a collaborative, high-functioning surgical team at a well-supported trauma program. This position offers a balanced practice combining trauma surgery, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care in a collegial, patient-centered environment. The ideal candidate is dedicated to clinical excellence, teamwork, and providing compassionate care to critically ill and injured patients.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited general surgery residency
  • Fellowship training in Trauma / Surgical Critical Care preferred
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
  • ATLS certification required (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to safety and quality
  • Passion for patient care and community health
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to evidence-based medicine and learning

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive trauma care, including resuscitation, operative management, and post-operative care
  • Manage emergency general surgery cases
  • Participate in surgical critical care coverage in the ICU
  • Collaborate closely with emergency medicine, anesthesia, intensivists, and subspecialty services
  • Participate in trauma call rotation (details customizable)
  • Support quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and trauma program development
  • Optional teaching opportunities if affiliated with residency or medical student programs
