About The Position

We are seeking a dedicated full-time Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing team. This is a rewarding opportunity to work alongside skilled surgeons in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Physician Assistant (PA) delivers advanced, comprehensive healthcare to a defined patient population in collaboration with the medical team. This role adheres to established medical standards, protocols, and best practices, while also providing specific care directives to nursing and support staff. The patient population ranges from adolescents to geriatrics.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from a Physician Assistant educational program approved by the Texas State Board of Licensing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Texas is required.
  • Current State of Texas licensure as a Physician Assistant required.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
  • Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused medical examinations, including history taking, physical exams, diagnostic interpretation, and formulation of differential and working diagnoses.
  • Develop, implement, and document appropriate treatment and care plans based on evaluation findings, diagnostic results, and patient history.
  • Order, obtain, perform, and interpret a wide range of diagnostic tests and procedures including blood tests, imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI, bone scans), EMG, ECG, compartment pressure measurements, and tissue specimens.
  • Perform medical and minor surgical procedures such as digital blocks, regional anesthesia, wound debridement and closure, tendon repair, incision and drainage, needle biopsy, percutaneous pinning of fractures, and hardware removal.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as joint and bursa aspirations, closed reductions of fractures/dislocations, injections (joints, tendons, trigger points, bursa), and application of braces, splints, and casts.
  • Assist in surgery as a first or second assist, including deep/superficial tissue closure and application of appliances; support hospital rounds, write orders, dictate discharge summaries, and provide inpatient care as delegated by the orthopedic surgeon.
  • Prescribe and administer medications, orthotics, braces, and other orthopedic devices in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate care plans and treatment strategies effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, case managers, and referring providers.
  • Educate patients and families regarding health conditions, medications, treatments, and health maintenance strategies; promote health education and the use of community resources.
  • Provide medical care and health promotion in alignment with established clinical guidelines and standards of care.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of medical findings, treatments, and patient encounters in the clinical record.
  • Initiate referrals and consultations with appropriate healthcare providers as needed.
  • Support discharge planning and continuity of care.
  • Participate in quality assurance, research activities, data management, and outcomes tracking to improve clinical effectiveness.
  • Ensure confidentiality and security of all protected health information, accessing only what is necessary to perform job functions.
  • Build and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with staff, patients, and healthcare colleagues.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
