About The Position

ABOUT THE POSITION : The Claremont Colleges Student Health Services is seeking a skilled and compassionate Physician Assistant to provide high-quality outpatient primary and urgent care to a diverse student population in a temporary, part-time role anticipated to continue through May 15, 2026. This position offers the opportunity to practice broad-scope medicine while working collaboratively with physicians, counseling services, and campus partners. Ideal candidates are clinically confident, student-centered, and enjoy supporting the health and well-being of adolescent and young adult patients in a dynamic college health setting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Clinical Responsibilities (Direct Patient Care): 90% Perform complete physical examinations (pre-matriculation, study abroad, employment, and sports participation) including taking medical history using the clinical techniques of observation, percussion, palpation, and auscultation Follow protocols, diagnoses common illnesses and injuries using the above noted techniques with the ability to distinguish between normal, normal variance, and abnormal findings based upon evaluation of the patient’s medical history and physical examination Select and request laboratory tests, x-rays, and diagnostic tests, interpreting test results together with a patient’s history and physical to assess a patient’s needs and problems Is responsible for primary care of acute and sub-acute, chronic and episodic conditions, illnesses, and injuries; assumes ongoing responsibility for a patient from discovery of the disorder to recovery under the supervision of a physician or specific protocol Establish and document the health care plan maintaining clear and accurate documentation of the problem, plan, outcome, and evaluation process Perform women’s health examinations including screening for abnormalities, contraceptive methods, pregnancy testing, and STI evaluation with referral to community specialists if needed Perform suturing and special procedures after demonstrating appropriate training Collaborate and consult with physicians for more complicated health problems Prescribe medication and contraceptive methods in accordance with prescriptive authority according to the State of California Physician Assistant NCCPA Provide immunization programs for the prevention and control of communicable diseases Collaborate with other health disciplines in providing care and treatment (i.e. physical therapy, athletic trainers, inhalation therapy, occupational therapy) Work in conjunction with Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services in management of students with mental health issues Work in conjunction with Health Education Outreach by providing information on health-related issues Administrative Responsibilities: 10% Provide consultative services on health-related issues to other campus programs Review and update patient educational materials Participate in campus outreach programs as requested Participate in Quality Assurance/Improvement programs for Student Health Services Serve as liaison with student residential life departments, other community health care providers, and outside agencies Participate in professional development opportunities and in-service training Attend weekly staff meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a Physician Assistant program.
  • Recent successful experience as a health care provider with adolescent and young adult/college aged patients preferably in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in health education and health promotion activities
  • Effective interviewing skills to elicit information related to needs identified by both patient and physical findings
  • Ability to identify normal/abnormal findings by physical examination, interrelating physical and psychosocial aspects
  • Ability to order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies and procedures relevant to identified problems
  • Ability to review patient’s medical record for documentation of pertinent information and immunization record
  • Ability to clearly and accurately record and document patient’s problems and treatment plans
  • Ability to assess and determine when consultation and/or referral are appropriate
  • Ability to utilize electronic health records
  • Clearly identifies and holds self out as a Physician Assistant
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to racial, cultural, religious, gender and sexual orientation diversity.
  • Thorough knowledge of Physician Assistant principles, methods, and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology in English and equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of uses and effects of medicines and narcotics
  • Ability to observe and record or respond with therapy to medical reactions, symptoms, and behaviors
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports
  • Ability to gain the interest, respect, and cooperation of patients
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students, and others
  • Ability to analyze urgent and emergent situations accurately and to take prompt action
  • Ability to utilize electronic health records.
  • Ability to maintain a neat and professional image at all times.
  • Provide evidence of the following vaccination(s): ☒ Tdap, Influenza, HBV, MMR, and VZV at the time of hire ☒ TB screening within 30 calendar days of hire, plus once per year thereafter

Nice To Haves
