About The Position

Orthopaedic Surgical Associates (OSA) has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (RNFA) to join its dynamic and growing team. This role will provide both clinical and surgical support, working closely with fellowship-trained hand and sports medicine surgeons in a collaborative, high volume practice. OSA is a premier orthopaedic surgery practice dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients across the Merrimack Valley, southern New Hampshire, and communities northwest of Boston. Founded in Lowell in 1987, the practice has grown to include fifteen physicians.

Requirements

  • Board Certified PA or NP (with RNFA)
  • Massachusetts licensure
  • New graduates welcome to apply with an orthopedic rotation
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Responsibilities

  • Performs complete physical exams, obtains complete medical history, and records findings
  • Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures. Interprets and integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan
  • Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients
  • Performs first assistant surgical duties, including tissue retraction and suturing
  • Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits
  • Administers medications and injections in compliance with state law and clinic guidelines
  • Instructs patients/families regarding medications and treatments
  • Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention, surgical procedures, and expectations in perioperative period
  • Actively supports patient safety program; adheres to applicable patient safety standards including NQF Safe Practices
  • Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation as necessary
  • Conducts post-operative evaluations
  • Performs necessary administrative duties consistent with role including EMR and billing inputs
  • Identifies emergency situations and uses sound judgement in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner
  • Call requirement is approximately 1:7
  • Minimal hospital rounding except on call weekends

  • Work schedule – Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm
