About The Position

Orthopedic Specialists of Seattle is looking for an experienced spine PA to join a high-volume, established orthopedic practice working directly alongside a busy spine surgeon. This role offers a strong mix of clinical autonomy and OR experience, with exposure to a substantial surgical and outpatient caseload. You will act as first assistant in the operating room in our ASC and hospital ORs, work independently in the clinic, and round on post-operative patients in the hospital. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, growth-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment. Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Washington State Physician Assistant License, Current
  • Current Certification as a physician assistant by the National Commission of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Current CPR and BLS certification required.

  • Experience in ortho surgery, ortho spine, or neurosurgery preferred.
  • Comfort with surgical assisting responsibilities, ideally prior spine OR experience.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Assessment & Care Planning - greets and identifies patients; conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments, including history, physical examination, and patient positioning as needed. Develops and manages individualized care plans.
  • Surgical Assisting & Pre/Post Operative Care – Functions as surgical first assistant in a range of spine procedures, including decompressions, fusions, and minimally invasive techniques. Delivers comprehensive pre-operative evaluation and counseling, and manages post-operative rounding, pain management, wound assessment, and discharge planning in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Diagnostic & Treatment Orders - orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within scope of practice. Prescribes medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and home health aides in accordance with clinical privileges.
  • Clinical Procedures - administers and injects medications; performs wound care, casting, splinting, dressing changes, and suture/staple removal. Assists with surgical procedures and maintains technical proficiency in assigned specialties prior to performance.
  • Documentation & Medical Records - maintains clear, accurate, and timely documentation across all patient encounters, including hospital rounds, charting, and all required paperwork.
  • Patient & Family Education - instructs and counsels patients, families, and caregivers on treatment plans, therapeutic regimens, and self-care using established education materials.
  • Clinical Excellence & Evidence-Based Practice - Applies current clinical protocols, guidelines, and evidence-based knowledge in all decision-making. Pursues ongoing formal and independent learning to sustain and advance clinical competency.
  • Emergency Response - initiates Basic and Advanced Life Support measures in response to emergency situations.
  • Collaboration & Advocacy - builds effective relationships with supervising physicians, consultants, discharge planners, and care teams. Advocates for patients, families, colleagues, and the broader healthcare profession.
  • Professional Conduct & Compliance - completes all assigned duties, supports team members as directed, and adheres to all organizational policies as outlined during onboarding and updated in the Teammate Handbook.
