About The Position

This health care professional is a physician assistant (PA) on the neurosurgery team of the Spine and Neuro department at Huntsville Hospital whose primary function is the co-management of patients (i.e., their diagnosis and treatment) under the supervision of the neurosurgical physicians within the recognized standards of practice. Performs surgical procedures in the operating room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs procedures in the clinic under direct or indirect supervision. Works directly with staff, administration, patients and families to ensure quality care across the continuum as an expert in surgical practice areas. Performs on-call coverage requiring high-level decision making on weekdays, weeknights, and weekends inclusive of surgery, hospital rounding, consults, and ED visits.

Requirements

  • Education required: Completion of Physian Assistant Masters of Science program and current Alabama PA license required
  • License, registration and/or certification: Current registration through the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners for PA. Approval of the Huntsville Hospital Credentialing Board. BLS certification required within orientation period.
  • Experience: Minimum one (1) year of work experience as a licensed PA.
  • Must have proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to interact with patients and their families in a manner that instills confidence and facilitates communication.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Inpatient, acute care neurosurgical or surgical experience preferred.
  • Surgical experience strongly preferred for Surgical PA.
