UPMC's Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) is seeking a dedicated Overnight Advanced Practice Provider to join our Thoracic Surgery Division. Position: Overnight Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care) Location: UPMC Shadyside Hospital Schedule: 3 12-hour shifts 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., weekday and weekend nights as scheduled, no on-call! Specifics: Approximately 90%25 hospital rounding and 10%25 operating room. The overnight APP will manage thoracic patients overnight with the below responsibilities: Answer calls from nursing and other services with management requests and respond appropriately to advance patient care, complete interventions started during the daytime that need additional management, respond to any codes involving thoracic surgery patients, assist in the OR for urgent overnight surgical cases. The overnight APP will see and appropriately staff all pending consults, complete thoracic patient admissions, perform H&P, enter orders, communicate plan to nursing, medical and surgical teams, and communicate overnight updates to the on-call physician, the daytime APP and trainee team in the morning. Department Details: The Thoracic Surgery Division cares for patients with a wide range of disorders affecting the lungs and esophagus. Surgeons in this division are at the forefront of developing new minimally invasive surgical techniques and creating new approaches to care for patients with complex lung and foregut issues. The APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The APP has responsibility, authority, and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The role of the APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. The APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients, and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession. The successful candidate will be placed according to years and months of experience for employment purposes. The posted salary range is for the Senior level which requires three (3) or more years of APP experience.
