About The Position

UPMC's Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care) to join their Thoracic Surgery team. The primary location is UPMC Shadyside, with cross-cover opportunities at UPMC Presbyterian. The role involves caring for thoracic surgery patients in hospital and clinic settings, as well as scrubbing in the operating room. The Thoracic Surgery Division specializes in a wide range of lung and esophagus disorders, utilizing new minimally invasive surgical techniques. APPs are integral to the team, managing patient care from diagnosis through surgery and long-term management across various sites. Opportunities for further training in bedside procedures and robotic surgical assistance are available. • Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program (CRNP)
• Current state RN license (CRNP)
• CRNP certification (CRNP)
• National certification (CRNP)
• Eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing (CRNP)
• Eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing (CRNP)
• Current CPR certification (CRNP)
• Act 33 Clearance (CRNP)
• Act 73 Clearance (CRNP)
• Act 34 Clearance (CRNP)
• A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) (PA)
• Current state PA license (PA)
• Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) (PA)
• Current CPR certification (PA)
• Act 33 Clearance (PA)
• Act 73 Clearance (PA)
• Act 34 Clearance (PA)
• Minimum 3 years of experience OR Completion of a post-graduate residency (Senior Level)
• Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or a graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) program (Senior Level)
• Completion of National Certification (Senior Level)
• Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual performance evaluation for consideration and to maintain status annually (Senior Level)
• Completion of an OAPP approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion into the position. (Senior Level)
• Department chair approval for promotion (Senior Level)
• ACLS or ITLS or NALS or PALS or ACLS or other certifications listed must meet AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire. (Senior Level)
• If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant, and value added to the practice setting. (Senior Level)
• Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families
• Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment
• Handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment

• Position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice.

Nice To Haves

• BSN, MSN is preferred (for CRNP)
• Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred (for CRNP)
• BS or MS candidate is preferred (for PA)
• Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred (for PA)
• BSN, MSN preferred for CRNP, BS or MS preferred for PA (for Senior Level)
