About The Position

Provides quality healthcare in collaboration with other health care providers in the emergency department (ED). Responsibilities Performs entire patient care continuum of urgent care and acute patients who present to the Emergency Department. Performing initial assessments, appropriate ordering/interpretation of diagnostics, exercising treatment algorithms (including treatment of abscesses, laceration repair, and fracture stabilization and splinting), and arranging for appropriate disposition (including admissions) for patients ranging from newborn to geriatric. Utilizes available physician resources appropriately. Demonstrates high confidence in treating patients. Looks for opportunities to grow skillset with goal of improving autonomy. Available for Primary Patient Care to include review of lab/x-ray reports, medication refills, patient referral, patient education, health maintenance and symptom management in acute and chronic disease for patients age newborn to geriatrics. Serves in educator role for staff RNs, LPNs, and student FNP s/PA s as needed. Serves in management/administrative/organizational role to include attending meetings and maintaining schedules. Participation in monthly committees to improve patient care. Assists in the screening/evaluation process for prospective employees, staffing and management. Assists in the development of policies and procedures for clinical areas in which C.F.N.P./PA services are provided, conforming to JCAHO, regulatory agencies and PHS/EH. Participates in data collection and quality management activities. Participate in Midlevel Education Committee trainings for ongoing skill maintenance and improvement. Use available data to drive ongoing professional practice Improvement. Willingness to receive and assimilate feedback from all levels of staff/providers (coachable). Actively participate in piloting improvement projects, organizational initiatives, team building exercises, section meetings, and semi-annual provider reviews. Maintains patient medical records as required by hospital and regulatory agencies. Looks for opportunities to increase accuracy and pertinent information capture. Willingness to assimilate feedback related to Documentation and Coding for appropriate billing capture. Participates in once monthly Call Shift. Performs other functions as required. Additional Job Description: For Nurse Practitioner - Masters degree in Nursing, New Mexico Nurse Practitioner license, federal and state DEA license and ANCC certification required. Minimum of one year experience preferred but not required. Experience as an ER Nurse preferred. For Physician Assistant - Baccalaureate prepared CAHEA Certified Physician Assistant or two (2) years working experience as a Certified Physician Assistant, and licensed by the New Mexico Board of Medical Examiners required.
